Welcome to the ABI/INFORM Complete: Business Database tutorial, a Milligan College Library online tutorial!

What is this box?

This is an online guide that will introduce you to the Milligan College Library resources in real time on a live webpage.

Move through the guide by using the arrows at the bottom of the box.

Use the actual webpage to complete the guide activities.

This tutorial will introduce you to ABI/INFORM Complete, a business tutorial.

MCSearch DOES NOT search ABI/INFORM. You must navigate to ABI/INFORM to search for business resources.

Let's get started learning about ABI/INFORM.

This is the Milligan Library homepage. To navigate to ABI/INFORM, click on the light blue tab labeled "Databases".

Click the down arrow to the right of "Choose a topic..."

Select "Business and Economics". Click "Browse".

Click on ABI/INFORM Complete.

If you are off-campus, you will be prompted to log in. Use your Milligan Network ID and password. This is the same one you use for Canvas.

A new screen should appear.

What word is to the left of the new search box?

ABI/INFORM Complete contains millions of articles from peer-reviewed journals, trade journals, magazine articles, newspaper articles and news wire feeds, along with reports and many other resources.

Because it is such a large database, you may find that your search results are very high and not always what you are looking for.

Let's learn some ways to find exactly what you are seeking.

Type: introverts management styles

in the search box. Hit the "Enter" key on your computer keyboard.

How many results did you have for the search: introverts management styles?

Look over on the right hand margin, there are several ways that you can easily focus your results.

Publication Date

Look at the right hand margin and look for a bar graph (you may need to scroll down).  The bars represent the number of articles written on this topic by decade. Notice that the vast majority have been written in the past 30 years.

Let's limit the search to items that have been published since 2000.  Click on the left little gray tab below the bar graph and drag it to 2000. Click the "Update" button.

How many items on introverts management styles were published since 2000?

Another way to limit is by Source Type.

Many professors will require that you use scholarly journals for an assignment.  For other assignments, you may need very current information that may only be available from a newspaper or wire feed.

Look at the right hand margin again.  Find the Source Type section.  Click on "More Options" at the bottom of that section.  You can now choose which sources to INCLUDE and also which sources (if any) to EXCLUDE.

Click on the INCLUDE boxes for Scholarly Journals and Trade Journals. Click "Apply" button.

How many scholarly journal and trade journal articles published since 2000 on the topic of introverts management styles are available in ABI/INFORM?

More Limiters

The right hand margin has many other ways of filtering. Some options may be more relevant to certain topics and not to others.  Please feel free to explore.

You can always undo a selection by clicking the little red x next to the option.

Finding the Full Text

The vast majority of items in ABI/INFORM are full text. Simply click on the Full Text or Full Text - PDF links under the article citation.

If you do find an item that is not full-text, copy the title of the item and search for it in MCSearch.  If it is not available there, you can place an Interlibrary Loan request.
